Being the mother of three boys I've decided that boys are inherently minimalists. Less is almost always more in their eyes, unless sugar is involved of course. Today my elementary school children will be celebrating Valentines Day with their classes. When they return home it will take them approximately 2.2 seconds to rip all candy from it's attached valentine and throw all paper goods to the trash.
It is for this reason that the Valentines Nick will be handing out were created with Bananagram letters and printed off on the computer. Allie handed out princess Valentines left over from 2 years ago and Matt will be taking a recycled Sponge Bob as his Valentines box (minus the "Brayden" and arms).
I will continue being impressed by the state of the art, professionally crafted valentines created by other mothers as I see them flying through the air into the recycle bin. Maybe it's a girl thing. And maybe when my girl is old enough to put her foot down we will be handing out cutie patootie Valentines ourselves, but until then-long live the simplicity of a testosterone filled Valentines Day!

I was wondering yesterday why getting ready for the school Valentine's Day party seemed so much less stressful than in years past. You just reminded me that my teenage girls are past the age of creating, enhancing, and handing out Valentines, but onto "more important" tasks.... like deciding what to get that special guy on that special day.
Entirely different kind of stress.
I guess I miss their class parties after all.
I LOVE the bananagram idea... i totally think that that is creative! Love it.
