- all the oversized back to school clothes actually fit
- coats are becoming blackened around the edges
- sneaker tread is becoming worn
- socks without holes are a luxury
- 7:30 rise and shine has been replaced by 8:10 bed head
- the crayon box is left with all the worst colors
- the teachers smile has turned a little more wary
- an extra good dessert doesn't offset the hot & sour meatballs in the lunchroom anymore
- a child's enthusiasm for learning is directly mirrored by his dogged homework folder
