Birds, Vomit and Alien Abductions

3:30 a.m. - 4:15 a.m
dog chunder
paper towels, rags, scalding water, disinfectant
the washing machine mocks the sacred silence of night

4:15 a.m. - 4:45 a.m.
my husband talks nonsense in his sleep
breaking into the nonsense of my busy mind

5:00 a.m.
The door creaks open slowly
the blackened figure floats to my bedside
"I'm scared."
Little body next to mine
so close we're breathing the same air
I ponder his latest obsession with alien abduction
and wonder if by chance aliens have left one of their own
5:15 a.m.
birds begin singing in the darkness

5:45 a.m.
alarm

sometimes morning is a welcome break,

Dog beds and washing machines don't work together.
Not even on the hand washables cycle.
They explode like a flowering pear in spring.

Being a Mom is definitely the hardest job there is! I LOVE my sleep and think I would have been a lot more hesitant to have children if I'd know how little of it I would get. And I just have ONE!

Hope tonight is much more restful for you!
