"I'm scared"

Her big grey eyes were brimming with tears as her little frame shook in fear.  "Oh sweetheart.  You don't need to do it.  You can wait here with me."  But she knew differently.  There was something inside her that wouldn't allow her the comfort of staying by my side.  She brushed away the tears, squared her shoulders and followed her big brothers into the canyon.  While her body was the smallest and would maneuver the slot canyon better than anyone else's it was still cold, dark, unknown territory.  Oh that I could have bottled the feeling I had as I saw her rise triumphant from the other end of the canyon.  She was beaming brighter than the southern Utah sun.

The following day she announced much to our surprise that she'd like to get her ears pierced.  We've put her in the drivers seat on this matter to which she has adamantly replied that she NEVER wants her ears pierced (followed by a reminder that she never, ever wants braces).  She's not a big fan of pain.

She was amazing.

funny how a weekend of fresh air, sunshine and family
can make one feel so adventurous and brave.

How awesome to see bravery in your kids.

Also, I'm seeing flip flops on some feet. Is hiking in the canyons a flip flop kind of activity? I think that could add to the scared factor for me.

Sweet A looks so much like you in those ear piercing pictures. Lucky girl.
