I've watched the birds outside my window
and envied how simple their life is.
Build a nest,
find food,
lay eggs,
stay clear of predators.
They don't sit stewing over their own happiness,
fretting over their children's self worth
or admiring their neighbors finely woven pile of twigs.
No time for worrying.
Only doing.
combed through hair
and nudged little bodies out the door
I felt a sweet kinship
and smiled at the thought.
