"But we don't use candles."
My husbands knack for stating the obvious would not be a deterrent. "Precisely my point," I replied handing him a soapy frying pan.
Beauty just follows some women. It seems to emanate from every detail surrounding them. I too have a desire to live among beautiful things . . .
unfortunately my frugality and laziness work to keep me from it. One of the most amazing women I've ever met used a shower curtain as a table cloth at Thanksgiving dinner one year. It was a story she retold with absolutely no shame involved. I respect that. Part of me longs to join her world, to realize that it's the company, not the surroundings, that matters most.
And then there's another side of me that wants to own a tablecloth. A part of me that wants to use china more than once a year. I want to wipe my children's faces and put them in clean shirts, turn down the lights and light the candles. I want to pass the food clockwise, use cloth napkins and real glasses.

Sometimes it's hard to figure out where I fall in all of this. But as I see it, candle stick holders will fit nicely into either scenario.
And the fact that we don't use candles, well, that is beside the point.

totally besides the point! I hear ya.
Lighting candles is soooo over rated, having beautiful candlesticks, however is not.
