Summer is like childbirth . . .

you forget what it's like until it's upon you again.

donning a bathing suit for the first swim of the season
half the mothers at the local pool are wearing the same suit
you see how it was really meant to fit
farmer tans
sunscreen
hungry children
overstuffed swim bags
stubbly legs
hungry children
lost goggles
twisted goggles
lip balm
hungry children
chlorine
sunburns
whining
hungry children
pruned skin
shivers
last to shower
no hot water
hungry children
ten o'clock bedtime for still hungry children
deck draped with beach towels
chairs draped with swimsuits

Did I mention that
giving birth to my children
were the four greatest days of my life?

Ellie and I started Mommy and Me swimming lessons this week. Sigh. I love summer!

And after four days of having to sport a swimsuit to and from lessons, I think I've just given up caring what I look like in it. It's just best that way. For me, that is...not society. ;)

I still remember the great, warm feeling of the poolside pavement against my little wet body as I laid out to get dry....before jumping in again.
