You "make" your home

only to have it continually "unmade"
the eternal work of a homemaker,

"Women who make a house a home
make a far greater contribution to society
than those who command large armies
or stand at the head of impressive corporations."

President Gordon B. Hinckley

"I'm distressed that the modern world's devaluation is signaling that preparing to become a mother, homemaker and wife is no "big deal." . . . In truth, learning to be a superb mother is a very big deal. . . . Such a task involves creating and maintaing a total environment of human warmth, intellectual stimulation, and spiritual strength by someone who sees the wellsprings of personal meaning that lie beyond a first glance at a diaper, a frying pan and a worn tennis shoe."
Marie K. Hafen
(as quoted in "Standing for Something")

sigh.......it's so true.

I LOVED hearing and now love reading President Hinkley's words to women. It's makes me teary just thinking about the tenderness he had for daughters of GOD...

Marie Hafen's quote...great. It reminds me to try not to let life and mothering just 'happen' but create what it needs to be.

Thanks for the quote. I'm often guilty of feeling devalued because of my switch to stay-at-home Mom. And I love the pictures...both of them!

I have been feeling so discouraged all day because the house seems to be in a perpetual state of messiness. I remember picking things up but then I turn around and everything is out again. Thanks for helping remind me that it is ok because in the end it is for something that matters more than mess!
