when we passed a group of his friends
riding their bikes.
"I want to ride a bike," he said.
"Then you will!" I answered.
With his shiny red helmet and hand-me-down dirt bike
we went up and down the sidewalk, up and down the sidewalk
just like we have a million times before.
and it didn't happen.
Just like it hasn't a million times before.
I don't know if I want to scream or cry.
